Frugal Tip No. 8: On Credit Cards

It's been a while since the last time I posted a frugal tip. =)

Now, I want to share some of my tips on using credit cards:

Photosource: From Google

1. Limit the Number of Your Credit Cards

One or two credit cards are enough because it is very hard to maintain and monitor if you have too many cards cards. Aside from that, the more credit cards you have, the higher the chances you will be tempted to spend.

Before, I used to collect credit cards. Name it! I almost have a credit card from each bank - HSBC, Citibank, Union Bank, Standard Chartered, Eastwest Bank, etc. I don't actually use them all. You know, just a collection. Also, I get thrilled every time my credit card application was approved.

Later on, I became mature already. I just cut the number of my credit cards to 3.

2. The Primary Use of Your Credit Card Should be for Emergency Purposes Only

As much as possible use cash on your purchases. At least, you don't need to worry about paying something in the future, right?

The problem with having credit cards is that you'll have a tendency to think that you have an immediate cash that you can splurge anytime. If uncontrolled, will later on put you into trouble. That's why if you have a credit card, you should only use it for emergency purposes only.

3. Make Sure You Have a Ready Cash to Pay for Your Credit Card Purchases

If ever you use your credit card, make sure that you have an available cash to pay for it. Not the other way around - the thinking that you'll have a money in the future to pay for it. What if something bad happened like you lost your job or you need some money because there's an emergency? I'm sure that you'll be dead broke and you won't be able to pay your credit cards which will later on make you heavily indebted because of high interest rates and various credit card fees.

4. Use Your Credit Card to Your Advantage

Credit card companies are very competitive now-a-days. They have different form of gimmicks to attract credit card holders to use their cards. There are instant rewards, rebates, points, etc.

I use my credit cards to my advantage. I take note of the promos available for each of my card. Applying Tip No. 3, I just use my credit cards just to avail of their promos. Because of that, I get a lot of freebies such as gift certificates, meals, drinks, etc. Isn't that great that you get something for free from your purchases?

5. Always Request for Waiver of Annual Fees

Credit card companies usually charge you for annual fees both for principal and supplementary credit cards which you could request them to waive.

Your request will have a better chance of approval if you are a good credit card holder. Meaning, you religiously pay on time and in full. Sometimes, they will just give you options in order for them to waive your annual fees such as using your accumulated points, subscribing to their e-statement, utilities payment enrollment, giving you spending requirement, etc. In my case, I usually choose the spending requirement option.

Then if they don't agree to waive your credit card annual fee, you can just have your credit card cut since it's very easy to apply for a new one.

6. Pay Your Credit Card Bills on Time and in Full

Make sure to always pay your credit card bills on time and in full. In this way, you'll avoid paying credit card charges and high interest rates.

Don't be tempted to pay only the minimum amount due for it will later make you pay more. Later on, you'll realize that you are just paying for the interest and credit card charges. Thus, making your debt balloon.

7. Leave Your Credit Cards at Home

Not unless you have high-self control, you should always leave your credit cards at home when you go to malls. In this way, you can resist temptation and you can think twice or thrice before purchasing something.

8. Keep Track of Your Credit Card Purchases

You should keep track of your credit card purchases by having a notebook where you list down all your credit card transactions. This will help you have a check and balance once your credit card statement arrives. Aside from that, it will also create awareness on how much you owe already.

9. Avoid Zero Percent Interest Purchases

Again, there is no such thing as zero percent interest. I suggest that you just save up for something and buy it in cash. Choose delayed gratification over instant gratification! In fact, delayed gratification will give you greater pleasure.

You'll also be amazed if you offer to buy something in cash. They will give you additional discounts which is actually the hidden interest if you use your credit card.

10. Request for Lower Credit Limit

This is weird right? Anyway, this will help you control your spending.

That's all for now. I hope this blog entry helps you. =)

SWAG: Muffins

Last Monday, we received 2 trays of delicious muffins from my Ninang...

Thanks Ninang Emy for these muffins! =)

Homeschooling the Kulilits: 5th Week

For last week's homeschooling, we talked about Joseph and how his brothers were jealous of him because he was given a beautiful and colorful coat by his father, Jacob.

It's actually a review week for letters A to D and for devotions discussed for the past few weeks such as asking, behaving, crying and doing what is right.

For our new lessons, we studied number 5, Philippine coins, following directions, expressing Yes & No, doing things wholeheartedly, knowing that God is always with us even if we feel alone and tracing their names.

Here are some of the activities we did last week:

Painting activity: they painted a kitchen towel simulating the colorful coat of Joseph...

Number 5 for their counting book...

For counting...

Name tracing...

For letter recognition...

Review of letters A to D...

Philippine coins...

That's it for the week! =)

Kulilits Moments: Pharaoh's Dream

While telling and discussing the story of Joseph and Pharaoh's dream to the Kulilits...

Me: The Pharaoh had a dream... There are 7 big and FAT cows...
Chris: Fat like daddy?
Ian: Like Doc Padu!
Me: Hahaha! Yes, like daddy. Haha!

Kids... Kids... Brutally honest kids!!! =)

Food Trip: Sincerity Cafe & Restaurant

Like what I've said in my previous blog entry, we ate our lunch at Sincerity Cafe & Restaurant located at the ground floor of Lucky Chinatown Mall. It was very enticing to eat there because you can see from the outside the jam-packed customers as well as the food that were being served.

Here is the facade of the restaurant...

A brief history of the restaurant...

The menu...

We ordered the following:

Large Sincerity Chami...

P120.00

The Sincerity Chami that we ordered was really HUGE and it was absolutely delicious also! We ordered a large plate so that we can bring home some for the Kulilits.

Small Oyster Cake...

P140.00

My original plan was to order the large serving. Good thing I changed my mind because their serving was big. In fact, we didn't finish it all.

The oyster cake was yummy also. Aside from being big, it was really thick and there are a lot of oysters in it!

Half Sincerity Fried Chicken...

P150.00

It's really a must try! I love the garlicky and buttery flavor of the chicken. It's crispy from the outside and really juicy inside! Plus the fact that it was served really HOT!

Big Plain Rice...

P60.00

We ordered plain rice so that we could savour the flavor of the viands that we ordered.

All the food items that we ordered were included in the restaurant's all time favorite list since it was our first time to try the restaurant. I tell you, they didn't fail us considering there were a lot of people eating there. The food was really GREAT - served hot, delicious and big serving! Apart from that, it has good value for money. Imagine, our bill was less than P500.00 only!

We will definitely go back there or maybe to their original branch (Binondo) and try their other all time favorite. =)

Christmas Shopping at Divisoria & Some Food Trip

Yesterday, hubby and I went to Divisoria to do our Christmas shopping. I really need to shop as early as now since I'm already due next month.

We left Las Pinas at around 8:00am and arrived at Divisoria a little bit past 9:00am. We parked at the Lucky Chinatown Mall because it's very accessible to 168 Mall, 999 Mall, Tabora St., etc. Aside from that, hubby and I are sure that it is a safe place to park our car.

We first went to 168 Mall...

I'm shocked because there are a lot of people already considering that we arrived there early...

Since I'm very much surprised to the volume of people yesterday morning, I asked around what time do they usually open. They told me that some of the stores are open as early as 7:00am.

After more than 2 hours of walking and shopping, I asked hubby if he wants to eat snack. Of course, what else will be his answer? Nothing else but a big YES. Eating, actually, is the tool that I use for him not to complain. Hehe!

We searched for the carinderia serving special palabok. Before, it was located at the basement of Divisoria Mall and it is really well-known. Since Divisoria Mall was already devastated by fire, they relocated somewhere along the street beside Divisoria Mall going to Sto. Cristo St.

Here's what the carinderia looks like...

Hubby and I ordered their special palabok...

It really tastes great and it only costs P35.00 per order! Their secret there is the squid ink and crunchy fat (I'm not sure if its pork or beef). Of course, I requested them not to put crunchy fat and crushed pork chicharon to my palabok. Instead, I asked them to put it to hubby's plate. Hehe. Mind you, it tasted really different without the crunchy fat.

After eating our snack, we went around again and shopped until we completed our checklist. By the way, on our way back to 168 Mall, we ate also turon. I really love the turon that's being sold near the 168 mall. It's big, hot and only P10.00. Hubby enjoyed it also.

We finished our Christmas shopping at around 2:00pm already. We haven't eaten our lunch. So I asked hubby to eat our lunch first before going home.

First, we checked the weekend street food market located at the open area beside the Lucky Chinatown Mall....

I didn't find the food being sold there appealing that's why I asked hubby if we could just look for a restaurant to eat. Until I saw Sincerity Cafe & Restaurant...

I saw a lot of people eating there and their food looked really yummy so I asked hubby if we could eat there. He again agreed. He even told me that you'll know if the restaurant serves good food if it's already past lunch time and yet you're still in a waiting list. Imagine, it's already past 2:00pm and we are still 5th on the list? But I tell you, it's really worth the wait and I'll blog about it maybe tomorrow. =)

After lunch, we went home already. But before I share you some photos of our loots, I would like to share a photo of the vehicle parked beside us. The driver is, I could say, very stupid! He doesn't know how to park right. And because of his stupidity, I wasn't able to ride the car immediately. Grrr....

Anyway, here are our loots yesterday...

and here's a sneak peek since I don't want to reveal our Christmas gifts to friends and relatives...

Our Christmas gift for the Kulilits...

P690.00

Yes, that's right! It's a kitchen set. We don't see anything wrong for boys to play with kitchen sets. We just want them to develop their interest in cooking. We want them to learn how to cook like their parents. Hehe. =)

Santa's presents for the Kulilits...

P140.00 each

A doctor set for them. I'm sure they'll like these! They won't borrow hubby's stethoscope anymore. Hehe.

Croc-Corocococ for hubby...

P250.00

He asked me to buy him a pair because he'll use it as his pambahay slippers.

I also bought some Ampao Red Envelope and gift tags...

Ampao - P10.00 each; Gift Tags - P30.00/100 pieces

6 Pajama bottoms for the Kulilits...

3 for P100.00

Some sweet Kiat Kiat oranges...

3 for P100.00

and some persimmon...

4 for P100.00

That's it for now!

How about you? Have you done your Christmas shopping already?

Kulilits' Favorites: Nestle Chuckie

The ultimate favorite drink of the Kulilits is Nestle Chuckie...

I don't know what's with Chuckie why my sons are so addicted to it. =)

Cha - Ching Music Video DVD

Papa G gave the twins this Music Video DVD...

It seems to be from Pru Life UK as I checked the back of the cover. Anyway, I'm sharing it to you guys because I've watched it with the Kulilits! It's so COOL!

It helps teach kids to be smart with money because it revolves around the following concepts: Earning, Saving, Spending and Donating.

In fairness, the Kulilits were attentive while watching it and you can even see that they grasped some of the concepts already. Actually, they are already starting to save money by putting coins in their piggy banks. =)

By the way, you can check out their website to watch the videos and for some apps...

Homeschooling the Kulilits: 4th Week

On our 4th week of homeschooling, we talked about Isaac and His Sons (Jacob and Esau). We also studied letter D and its sound, number 4, tracing their names, comparing words such as shorter, farther and closest, doing the right things and many more.

Here are some of the activities we did last week:

For letter recognition...

Tracing activity (there are scribbles in their work because they are instructed to camouflage their names which symbolizes how Jacob deceived his father Isaac)...

For counting...

For their counting book...

That's it! And now, it's our last day already for week five. Til' next week... =)

Post Birthday Celebration at Crimson Hotel

Last weekend, we celebrated my birthday at Crimson Hotel. We chose Crimson because (1) it's located in Alabang which is near our house, (2) it's a new 5-star hotel and (3) they have a promo package which includes buffet breakfast for two.

Let me tour you around.

Here's the hotel lobby which is located at the 8th floor...

view from elevator

view from

The front desk...

The swimming pool area...

Our room is located at the 22nd floor. Each floor has an elevator lobby...

We booked a deluxe room. We actually requested for a king size bed. Unfortunately, only deluxe rooms with two twin beds were available since the hotel was fully booked that time.

Here's the inside of our room:

The beds...

The work and entertainment area...

The corner nook...

The mini bar...

The view from our room...

Inside the bathroom...

So what did we do then?

We just relaxed... relaxed... and relaxed.

Then just enjoyed...

enjoyed...

and enjoyed...

Hubby and the kulilits watched movies...

They are watching Emperor's New Groove here.

Until hubby went out for a while to check his new admission. Yeah, I know, it's such a kill joy. But we can't do anything about that because that's hubby's profession.

So, I was left alone with the Kulilits...

Good thing that the Kulilits were behave that time. They just watched movies and ate snacks. =)

Chris fell asleep here while eating and watching a movie. You can't deny that he's the son of his father. Hehehe!

At around 9:00pm, hubby finally arrived with our dinner. We ate dinner together then watched movies again until we all fell asleep.

The following day, we ate breakfast at Cafe Eight...

They have a lot of food choices...

Salad & Cold Cuts Station

Bread & Pastries

Fresh Fruits, Yogurt, Cereals & Juices

Egg Station & Main Menu Dishes

Other Side of Main Menu Dishes

Here I am with the Kulilits during breakfast...

What can I say about the food?

Though what I eat is only limited to veggies, chicken and fish, I still enjoyed their food. I ate their fresh salad, smoked salmon (my favorite), egg sandwich, mushroom & cheese omelette, congee with century egg, fried rice, chicken teriyaki and some doughnuts for dessert. =)

Who do you think enjoyed the breakfast most?

Of course, no other than, my hubby!!! He ate a lot! Hahaha! His favorite was the danggit. He also ate waffles and assorted sausages which he told me was good combination.

After breakfast, we went around the hotel again.

Here are the Kulilits running around the pool area...

They wanted to swim but we didn't allow them since they just recovered from flu.

The Kulilits at the waiting area near the front desk which they turned into a wrestling ring...

We went to the front desk because hubby requested for a late checkout. We just actually requested to stay until 1:00pm, but they are generous enough to let us stay until 2:00pm.

So there, we went back to our room; I slept again with Chris while Ian and hubby watched TV.

Our stay at Crimson Hotel is such a wonderful experience. We bonded as a family. It's just the four of us enjoying each other. =) I hope we'll have another moment like this in the future.
